Dracula Feb 2009
Players Theater is located in Greenwich Village at 115 MacDougal St., right on top of Cafe Wha (formerly Cafe Feenjohn). It is a most unusual play in that the actors do not move about but stand at microphones like they would in a studio producing radio dramas. Since I have always enjoyed radio dramas, this is just fine with me. What stood out to me was the superb voice characterizations of Dracula and Renfield by Frank Zilinyi. A thoroughly enjoyable evening. It was a cold Tuesday night but on getting out of the theater I was amazed at the streets and sidewalks being crowded by hundreds of people. Sadly, I found a fair number of shuttered storefronts. Evidently they were victims of the current economic climate.
