One book shop in Bay Ridge. Jean Danet at 7526 5th Ave, tel 718-836-7566 is a great French bakery. They probably make the finest croisants in the city. They glisten with butter. There are many places that I did not look into. I avoided places that seemed to have invested heavily in appearance. To pay for this appearance they would have to increase their prices. I would rather go to a cheap place with a dingy exterior and dried bird shit hanging from the outside security gate (like the Yemeni place on Court St ). The Norwegian diner that was a fixture of the neighborhood for years is gone. No more Fiske Boller (this is not a great hardship). No more frozen lingonberries and no more fish and chips served wrapped in newspaper.
